Short answer

Can you move an Etisalat prepaid number to postpaid? Yes, and you keep the same number. e& handles the conversion at a business centre or outlet, or by calling 101 from the prepaid line itself. You need your original Emirates ID and one supporting document, the same set required for any new postpaid line. Most postpaid plans then carry a 12 month commitment, with an early exit charge of one month of the plan or AED 1,000, whichever is lower.

People usually reach this point for one of two reasons: the monthly recharge has quietly grown past what a postpaid plan would cost, or they have started needing things prepaid does not give them, such as a proper roaming bundle or a bill they can claim back. Both are good reasons. Neither is a reason to change the number.

Do you keep your number

Yes. This is a change of billing arrangement on the same line, not a new line. Your number, your contacts' record of you, your WhatsApp, your bank's registered mobile, all stay as they are. That is the main practical advantage of converting rather than starting a fresh postpaid line and abandoning the old one.

Two things worth doing before the change goes through:

What you need

The same as any new postpaid subscription: original Emirates ID, plus one supporting document from e&'s accepted list, which includes a stamped salary certificate or Ministry of Labour contract where the stated minimum salary is AED 2,500, or alternatively a three month bank statement, a tenancy or ownership contract, last month's utility bill with your address, or a vehicle licence. The full document list and the routes for people under the salary line are here.

The 12 month commitment, and the exit charge

This is the part to understand before you convert, because it is the one thing prepaid never imposed on you. Postpaid plans normally run on a 12 month commitment. If you end the plan early, e& applies an exit charge equal to one month of the plan's instalment or AED 1,000, whichever is lower.

What that means in practice: on an AED 188 plan, leaving early costs about one month, so the downside is small. On a AED 1,250 plan the AED 1,000 cap applies instead. Either way the exposure is capped and it is worth knowing the number before you sign rather than after.

If you know you are leaving the UAE within a few months, this is the reason to stay on prepaid.

Which plan to land on

Do not convert onto whatever plan is put in front of you. Work out what your prepaid habit actually costs first, then pick against it.

When not to convert

How to do it

  1. Through e& directly: visit a business centre or outlet, or call 101 from the prepaid line.
  2. Through an authorized dealer: message us on WhatsApp with your number, your Emirates ID and one supporting document. We confirm which plan fits your usage and handle the paperwork, and you do not queue anywhere.

If you would rather change the number as well as the billing, that is worth considering at the same time, because every postpaid plan comes with a free number from a tier: Silver on plans up to AED 360, Gold on the AED 500 plans, Platinum at AED 1,000. You can see what is available before you decide.

Conversion channels (business centre, outlet, or 101 from the prepaid line) and the early exit charge (one month of the plan or AED 1,000, whichever is lower, on 12 month commitment plans) are e&'s published terms, checked 24 July 2026. Plan prices are the authorized dealer prices offered by uaepremiumnumbers.com, monthly, before 5 percent VAT. Confirm current terms before you convert.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert my Etisalat prepaid number to postpaid?

Yes. e& converts an existing prepaid line to a postpaid plan at a business centre or outlet, or by calling 101 from the prepaid line. An authorized dealer can also handle it over WhatsApp.

Do I keep the same number when I switch from prepaid to postpaid?

Yes. It is a change of billing arrangement on the same line, so your number, your WhatsApp and any service registered against that number stay exactly as they are.

What do I need to switch from prepaid to postpaid?

The same documents as any new postpaid subscription: your original Emirates ID plus one supporting document, which can be a stamped salary certificate or Ministry of Labour contract with a stated minimum salary of AED 2,500, or a three month bank statement, a tenancy or ownership contract, last month's utility bill, or a vehicle licence.

Is there a contract when I move to postpaid?

Postpaid plans normally carry a 12 month commitment. Ending it early triggers an exit charge equal to one month of the plan's instalment or AED 1,000, whichever is lower.

What happens to my remaining prepaid balance?

Do not assume it carries across. Use up remaining credit and any active bundles before the conversion, and ask about balance handling when you start the process.

Is postpaid cheaper than prepaid in the UAE?

It depends entirely on your usage. Postpaid starts at AED 188 a month before VAT with non-stop data and 1,000 local minutes. If your prepaid recharges are already around AED 150 to 200 a month you will almost certainly get more for the same money on postpaid. If you spend well under that, stay on prepaid.

Can I switch back to prepaid later?

Moving back is possible but the 12 month commitment on the postpaid plan applies first, and leaving early triggers the exit charge. Plan the direction you want before you convert rather than after.

Do I get a free premium number when I convert?

The number tier included with each postpaid plan applies, Silver on plans up to AED 360, Gold on the AED 500 plans and Platinum at AED 1,000. If you convert and keep your existing number you are keeping that number instead. If you would rather take a premium number, decide at the point of conversion.
